About the PDE Lab. The Research Laboratory of Plasm Display Electronics was founded at Graduate School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science of Kyungpook National University (KNU) in 1995. Our research group is led by Professor Heung-Sik Tae.
At an initial phase of research, we focused on plasma discharge characteristics and its application to semiconductor processing such as a helical plasma source and (magnetized) inductively coupled plasma (ICP) source.
In 1998, we have launched plasma display panel (PDP) research. Optical characterization of PDP¡¯s phosphor layer, Microdischarge characteristics due to the cracks of MgO layer, and various driving schemes using auxiliary address pulse for improving luminous efficacy and image quality have been intensively studied.
The Current Research Topics of Interest Include
(1) Atmosphereic Pressure Plasma (APP) for Biomedical Applications and Surface Engineering
(2) Plasmonics for Biology, Medicine, Efficient Solar Cells, High Resolution Microscopy, Optical Communications
(3) Microplasma Modes and its Driving Schemes
(4) Image Sticking Phenomena and Reducing Techniques
In addition, we have a branch research group for fundamental electromagnetic field theory for future potential applications including
We have 33 alumni and they are doing intensive research activities in various universities, governments and industries.
